Citrus oils have a very fresh and uplifting scent. They are a common element in anti-depression blends. While their properties and aromas are very beneficial, there are some considerations to be taken when using those oils. Do not use them on your face, and if you apply them (always diluted!) to your skin, do not expose your skin to direct sunlight. Citrus oils are photosensitive and can produce dark spots on your skin, so please be careful in the summer!

Citrus oils are: Bergamot, Lemon, Lime, Grapefruit and Orange, Ginger.

Speaking of dilution – essential oils have to be mixed with a carrier oil before applied to the skin. For example coconut or jojoba oil plus the essential oil of your choice. Applying directly to your skin concentrated essential oil can cause an allergic reaction, skin sensitivity etc. There are several oils which can be directly applied, but if you are not a professional I would always recommend a dilution. For best results and safest practice, consult a certified Aromatherapist before undertaking any essential oil application, which can have longterm effect on your health.
