What is Mindfulness?
Using the language of psychology, Mindfulness is the active focused attention on the present moment. It requires concentration and cognitive control. It stimulates your metacognition or the state of thinking about thinking. Speaking in terms of spirituality, this is the efficient way of living, appreciating each moment (gratitude) and making the most of it. Mindfulness is popular in the healthcare system because it is accessible to EVERYONE and doesn’t require religious affiliation! And it’s easy to do!
Mindfulness Meditation Montreal is a nonreligious and nonesoteric practice, available to all! Sessions are offered both in person and at distance.
Benefits of Mindfulness Meditation
Mindfulness reduces symptoms of depression, anxiety, stress, addictions, chronic pain, excessive worrying.
Mindfulness is used for weight management, healthy aging, children with special needs, pregnancy, athletic performance, academic performance, work productivity etc.
Mindfulness help people to improve their quality of life! For best results, I do encourage my clients to combine the practice with aromatherapy.
MBSR or Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction
Jon Kabat-Zinn is an american professor of medicine who developed the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction program. He took the Buddhist teachings and yoga practices and implemented them into the scientific field, by making mindfulness accessible to all patients and healthcare professionals. He was a Zen Buddhist student, therefore the Zinn addition to his family name. Since the development of MBSR Mindfulness is increasingly gaining popularity in schools, hospitals and other public organizations, due to its proven efficiency and possibility to be adapted to different populations.
None! Actually one – you need to be a living person able to breathe. You see, the mindfulness practice involves concentrating on the breathing process. You don’t need to have any meditation experience whatsoever. It is not difficult, in fact it is super simple yet one of the most powerful tools you will ever learn to use in your life!
What’s the Secret?
There is no magic in the mindfulness practice. It is extremely powerful though, as I already mentioned. The true transformation comes from within. With mindfulness you learn to observe your own thoughts and you become more aware of the negative thinking patterns. This way you can control them and shift back your attention to what matters most – the present moment. Not yesterday, not tomorrow, NOW is what shapes you and your life. Introspection is what leads to longterm changes.
